10 Qualities of a Godly Woman

The late Pastor Bimbo Odukoya still has a voice although she is no more physically, she is definitely in our hearts and her messages still resonate powerfully as though she were still alive.
I came upon a titled of a piece of hers on Facebook titled “31 Qualities of a Godly Woman” and here is the link to the main article: https://www.facebook.com/pastorbimbo/posts/10151314308955009. For this write-up, I picked 10 of my favourite from the 31 qualities and explained them in my own words. Sit back and enjoy

1. She loves and embraces children (Psalm 113:9, Titus 2:4):
I have a soft spot for kids and I don’t even have kids yet but there is this joy that emanates from my soul when I am with children. I love kids to a fault. How embracing is she to kids, not only to her kids (if she is married) but to other people’s children. A mother is arguable the most important parent in the life of a child, a woman that genuinely loves children will naturally radiate beauty. Titus 2:4 says “That they teach a young woman to love her husband and her kids” (paraphrased) and Psalms 113:9 also says “He maketh the barren woman to keep house, and to be a joyful mother of children”. Godly women’s love for kids is natural not pretentious.

2. She has discretion (Proverbs 11:22):
Discretion can be defined as the quality of behaving or speaking in such a way as to avoid causing offence or revealing confidential information. So in other words, knowing when to speak and when to shut-up is discretion. We all know how some girls talk more than they think. Proverbs 11:22 says “A beautiful woman who lacks discretion is like a gold ring in a pig’s snout”. As my research found out, the women of Israel back in the day wore nose rings the same way women of today wear earrings and finger rings. Now lets imagine a pig wearing a gold ring, even a gold ring cannot beautify a dirty pig. Similarly, no matter how beautiful a girl is, if she has no discretion, if she can’t keep her mouth to her self, if she is a rumor monger, she fights and insults everyone at anytime, then she is likened to a dirty pig wearing a gold ring. Take note ladies

3. She joyfully embraces being a woman and abhors feminism (Psalm 113:9, Romans 12:9):
Feminism is simply the advocacy of women’s rights on the ground of the equality of the sexes. When I see ladies that spend so much of their time trying to campaign for equal rights, trying to be equal to men instead of embracing their femininity, instead of trying to be a better woman, a better wife and a better mother then in pidgin English ‘I just dey pity for them’.
God knows why He created a man from the dust of the ground and created a woman from his ribs. I still believe its a woman’s world not a man’s world because a smart woman can do what a smart man can’t so it depends on how strongly you see yourself, as a victim or as a victor. Instead of trying to be equal with men, study to show yourself approved as 2 Timothy 2:15 says. Success is not gender biased, money is not gender biased and God is not gender biased.

4. She can manage her home well (Proverbs 31:27, Titus 2:5, 1 Tim 5:14):
A woman that can manage her house very well as a single lady, a lady that treats her siblings as she would her children is a special lady indeed. A man is not capable of managing a home like a woman can but when a woman shies away from such responsibility as a single, she wouldn’t do it joyfully as a married woman.
Proverbs 31:27 says “She watches over the affairs of her household and she does not take her food without working for it.”

5. She desires to raise and train the next president, not BE the next president (Proverbs 31:1):
Very powerful statement here and it took me a while to understand the message she was trying to pass across here. To explain this powerful statement, lets take a look at Proverbs 31:1 which says “The sayings of King Lemuel–an oracle his mother taught him”. This simply showed that King Lemuel’s mother was more focused on raising the next king, she did all she could to bring him up as a leader and imbibe in him the right morals instead of waiting for her husband to die and fighting for the throne. In nowadays English, a Godly woman focuses on raising Godly children, trains them in the way of the Lord instead of struggling for supremacy.

6. She has a humble spirit (1 Peter 3:4):
I watched a movie that a lady was driving and saw two of her ex-classmates who weren’t well-to-do and looked very shabby. She stopped the car, came down and addressed them with such disregard and pride. Humility can be defined as the quality of having a modest or low view of one’s importance. A woman’s beauty should not emanate from the fine clothes, cars, hairstyles or jewelry she wears. Instead, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight. Always remember Philippians 2:3 “..humility value others above yourselves”.

7. She looks up to, follows, and respects her husband as the leader of the home (1 Cor. 14:35, Eph. 5:33):
This is how marriage works, as long as a man loves his wife and his wife respects him then their marriage is gonna be peaceful. You cannot love your wife and not respect her so in order words, a man respects his wife and his wife respects him. Ephesians 5:33 says “However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.”
A saying goes thus ‘a man is the head of the home while a woman is the neck and without the neck the head can’t stand’. Instead of vying for supremacy at home, support your husband and follow his leadership.

8. She has skills to prepare meals for her family and bless others through hospitality (Prov. 31:15):
I have always told ladies that there are two ways to a man’s heart; through his mouth (how good a cook you are) and through his private part (how good you are in bed). As long as you can cook better than your mother-in-law (which is rare in this our indomie and blackberry generation), you have your husband’s listening ear over her any day anytime.
Prov. 31:15 says “She gets up before dawn to prepare breakfast for her household”. If you can’t cook, its not late to learn, if you can only cook the basics like stew and a few soups, visit youtube and start learning more delicacies asap. The other side of this statement is hospitality, are you hospitable?, do you have a friendly and welcoming personality? or are you the rude, aggressive and ill behaved type?.

9. She clothes herself in modesty and good works and does not desire to attract or distract men’s eyes (1 Peter 3:3-4, 1 Tim. 2:9-10):
Imagine going to church to worship Jehovah Jireh and while worshiping His Almighty you look at the sister beside you and her boobs are almost hanging out. Haba, which kind of evil distraction is this one now. Dressing has turned into what girls are not putting on instead of what they are actually putting on, seems the more technology we have, the looser ladies dress. As the saying goes, dress the way you want to be addressed, and exercise modesty when picking out what to wear. 1 Timothy 2:9-10 reads “likewise also that women should adorn themselves in respectable apparel, with modesty and self-control, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly attire, 10 but with what is proper for women who profess godliness—with good works.”

10. She can be trusted with wise discretion in spending (Prov. 31:16):
Money they say makes the world go round. I took a girl out a long time ago and I made sure I was loaded so as not to embarrass myself and my family..lol. We got to the restaurant and I ordered with sense (as a sharp Igbo guy), I expected this girl to order a full plate so I came prepared only for her to tell the waiter to bring an extra spoon that she wanted us to share the food I ordered. Some women and money sha, only a few girls can be trusted with spending money. Men know that taking Nigerians girls to a boutique is the worst mistake you can make, if your not careful, she will dry you up. Can you be trusted with money?
