The Village Love by An Igbo Man

True life story.

So I was in England a few years back studying for my Masters. It was a very beautiful experience I must say

Nna men, Ndi Oyimbo amaka. They are so beaurifull. Their life di very peaceful. Apart from the unholy cold, living abroad was a memory I would forever cherish.

But in all the euphoria of learning how to speak through the nose (British accent), eating chicken and chips, drinking tea and biscuits, wearing blanket thick jackets to avoid freezing to death, standing in queues (not a Nigerian thing), enjoying unlimited wifi and not worrying about NEPA.

Something was missing……

As the typical Igbo boy that I am. The tall lanky glasses wearing son of Anambra parents born somewhere in Onitsha. For an unrepentant son of the  Igbo soil like me, even living in the UK left something missing….

I was missing my village…..

I missed preparing to travel with my siblings by going Christmas shopping.
I missed showing off my new clothes in the village.
I missed hearing people left, right and center speaking Igbo.
I missed the most beautiful drink on Earth; fresh palm wine.
I missed eating the World famous akpu and fresh oha soup.
I missed waking up to the calm serene and peaceful atmosphere in the village.
I missed going to greet my grandparents at the balcony.
I missed seeing my grown-up cousins and remarking “you have grown so big since I last saw you”.
I missed visiting my Uncles and Aunts in one far village house.
I missed struggling to speak the Igbo language while they laughed me to silence.
I missed hearing Biafra war stories told by my grandfather.
I missed feeding the goats at the back of grand pa’s house.
I missed chasing the fowls around.
I missed coughing at the sight of those firewood stoves.
I missed attending Bazaar.
I missed forming Senior with my siblings and cousins whenever it was time to go get food.
I missed listening to Igbo music and Igbo speaking OAPs on the radio.
I missed going to Eke market to buy things for the house.
I missed being told ” you are getting so tall” by my relatives.
I missed going to Catholic Church close to grand pa’s house where the Priest speaks Igbo.
I missed eating abacha on a regular basis.
I missed plucking fruits in the compound with stones and stick.
I missed fetching water in the well just in front of grand pa’s compound.
I missed going to the school compound close to grandpa’s house to play football with the village boys and my cousins.
I miss attending weddings in the village. Weddings where you actually eat proper Igbo food.
I missed going to the farm to see how grown the cassava was becoming.

Going back to the village isn’t just a thing Igbos do because we get bored of City life or just feel like spending money.

Going back is like going to see your long lost father. It’s an identity reaffirming ritual for us.

No matter where we are, who we are or what we are doing, going back to the village is one of the most awesome experiences every Igbo man, woman, boy or girl looks forward to every year.

It’s that time of the year again.

Ka anyi jebee…..

The Exodus of Ndi Igbo To The Village

Going back time immemorial, when Nigeria became independent from the British Colonial masters. Ndi Igbo were mostly spread across the while country. In fact Nigeria was so united back then that most prominent Igbo people were born outside the shores of Igboland.

  • Dora Akunyili of blessed memory was born in Makurdi, Benue Stats (Northern Nigeria).
  • Orji Uzor Kalu attended school in Kaduna and Borno States (Northern Nigeria).
  • Late Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu was born in Niger State (Northern Nigeria) and started his education in Lagos (Western Nigeria).
  • Alex Ekweume (first elected Vice President of Nigeria) schooled in Lagos (Western Nigeria).
  • Rochas Okorocha (Present Governor of Imo State) schooled in Jos (Northern Nigeria).
  • Late Nnamdi Azikwe (first President of Nigeria) was born in Niger State (Northern Nigeria).

I could go on and on but the message is clear. Igbos started off well spread across the looks and cranny of Nigeria. They were and still are very adventurous, hardworking and business minded individuals. Igbos were rich and very influential within the business and political sphere in Nigeria with Sir Louis Odumegwu Ojukwu one of the richest men in Nigeria back then.

Igbos held power in various positions with the first President of Nigeria (Nnamdi Azikwe) an Igbo man.

Many Igbos were in the Northern regions of Nigeria mostly for business and enjoyed an amicable relationship with the accommodating Northerners.

Igbos built houses and owned properties mostly outside their hometown in Lagos and even in the North with many marrying from their adopted lands.

Igbos had the respect and revenence of Nigerians for their up-and-do attitude, resourcefulness, tenacity to succeed no matter the odds and undiluted love for money.

Igbos had it good but then something happened.

Something happened that made Igbo people a scorn even among their fellow Nigerians. Something happened that makes Yoruba parents very apprehensive when an Igbo man comes for their daughter’s hand in marriage today. Something happens that makes an Hausa man extra careful when doing business with an Igbo man.

Something happened….

That ‘something’ that happened is called the Biafra war.

So as not to bore you with so much information, I will be very brief in this regard. Ten steps to understanding what led to the Biafra war and Nigeria’s enmity towards Ndi Igbo.

1. The first coup d’etat was conspired by an Igbo man (Emmanuel Arinze Ifeajuna) and led by another Igbo man called Major Patrick Chukwuma Kaduna Nzeogwu in January 1966.
2. That first coup led to the assassination of 11 politicias including two prominent Northern leaders; Prime Minister Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa and Premier of Northern Nigeria, Ahmadu Bello.
3. The coup was however not successful which led to the taking over of the Government by Major General Johnson Aguiyi-Ironsi (an Igbo man).
4. The Igbo man who took over however failed to meet Northern demand for the prosecution of the coup plotters who were mostly of Igbo origin. Some of the coup plotters were maintained in the military on full pay.
5. The coup, despite its failure and since no repercussion was meted out to the coup plotters was seen as an Igbo coup. Mostly because a majority of the coup plotters were Igbo and Northern and Western politicians were killed with no significant Igbo political leader affected.
5. The Northerners were berieved and plotted a counter coup led by General Murtala Muhammed overthrew and killed General Johnson Aguiyi-Ironsi (the Igbo man).

Do you get the drift?

Igbo men killed Northerners. Northerners avenged and killed Igbo men. Let’s continue….

6. After Gowon was installed as Head of State, Igbos were slaughtered in their thousands in the North by Hausa-Fulani soldiers and civilians who sought revenge for the earliar aforementioned coup.
7. This resulted in the forced Exodus of millions of Igbos to the Eastern Region.
8. This pogrom (meaning an organised massacre of a particular ethic group) was the precursor to Ojuwku’s Declaration of Eastern Nigeria’s secession from the federation as the Republic of Biafra and resulted in the Nigerian Civil War.
9. The Civil War lasted almost 3 years with millions of Igbos killed, mostly dieing from starvation.
10. After the war, houses, properties and businesses owned by Igbos in the West and North were auctioned off and never returned to them. £20 was given to any Igbo person with money in the bank, no matter how much they had in the bank. Igbos had to start from scratch.

Many years after the war, Igbos have dusted themselves up, started afresh and have come a very long way.

One thing has changed from the olden days, Igbos are now smarter. They have learnt to build at home before you build elsewhere.

It’s only an Igbo man that would live in a rented apartment in Lagos but have a mansion in the village.

It’s only an Igbo man that would live as a tenant in Abuja but build houses in the village.

Times have changed but the Exodus of Igbo people from wherever they are to their villages during Christmas and New Year celebrations could be linked to their desire to know, see and experience their roots because at least their homeland can never be taken away from them. No matter what.

The Blind Way of Saying Thank You

A blind boy sat on the steps of a building with a hat by his feet. He held up a sign which said: “I AM BLIND, PLEASE HELP.”
There were only a few coins in the hat. A man was walking by. He took a few coins from his pocket and dropped them into the hat. He then took the sign, turned it round, and wrote some words. He put the sign back so that everyone who walked by would see the new words. Soon the hat began to fill up. A lot of people were giving money to the blind boy. That afternoon, the man who had changed the sign came to see how things were. The boy recognized his footsteps and asked, “Were you the one who changed my sign this morning? What did you write?” The man said, “I only wrote the truth, I said what you said but in a different way. I wrote: “TODAY IS A BEAUTIFUL DAY, BUT I CANNOT SEE IT”.

Both signs told people that the boy was blind. But the first sign simply said the boy was blind and asked for sympathy! The second sign reminded people how fortunate they were to have their sight. Should we be surprised that the second sign was more effective?

Think differently and most importantly think positively and always be thankful for what you have.

Have a great attitude!
Never forget how blessed you are!

Being negative only makes your life’s journey more difficult!
Don’t be negative when you have so much to be positive about- at least you are alive! Count your blessings not your burden!

When life gives you a 100 reasons to cry, show life that you have 1000 reasons to smile.

Face your past without regret.
Handle your present with confidence.
Prepare for the future without fear.

As the year draws to a close, no matter how 2016 has been, keep the faith and drop the fear.

Faith is not about everything turning out OK. Faith is about being OK no matter how things turn out.

For every bad event that may have happened to you this year, there is at least ten good things to be grateful for. Focus on those goods thing as the year ends.

“I believe if you keep your faith, you keep your trust, you keep the right attitude, if you’re grateful, you’ll see God open up new doors”. – Joel Osteen

Assignment: Take a sheet of paper and write things you are grateful for in 2016. If your list goes beyond 20, then you blessed. Think it and Act it.

What Men and Dogs Have in Common

The time was 6pm and I had just finished work and was about heading home when it dawned on me that I had no food to eat at home. The lazy bachelor in me wasn’t prepared to cook so simply decided to branch at the restaurant/mama-put close to the office and get something to eat at home.

I had just entered the compound when my neighbors local dogs surrounded me. I was startled because these dogs never acted like I existed but I was too tired to think straight. I was a bachelor heading home to an empty house and here were these lovely dogs showing me some love. It was heartwarming and while basking in the euphoria of their “love”, I foolishly decided to drop some of my belongings on the floor beside me, kneel down and pet a few of the puppies wagging their tails at me.

As if a cloak was removed from my eyes, the seemingly caring dogs slowly began descending on my nylon filled with hot and sumptuous fufu with oha soup and roasted chicken.

Can you imagine?

So these dogs were showing me attention all along just to get a taste of my dinner. I got up so fast, picked my things and left for my room to be welcomed home by my television set and bed. At least these ones have no ulterior motive. In all seriousness, this episode thought me something very valuable, that dogs will always be dogs. Dogs like flesh/bone/food and will naturally be attracted to people that have such to offer. The law of attraction.

It’s in this vein I would like to point out something valuable about man’s attraction to a woman’s body.

I have heard some women called men dogs but it seems most of them don’t know why they call men dogs.
Men aren’t necessarily called dogs because they can sleep with anything in skirt (even dogs aren’t that promiscuous).
Men aren’t called dogs because of their uncanny love for doggystyle during sex. Very far from it.
Men are called dogs because like dogs are attracted to flesh. For dogs, flesh connotes food while for men flesh is a woman’s breasts and ass.

Some months back, I went clubbing with friends and a few girls entered the club. These girls looked very young and were obviously students but their mode of dressing left nothing to the imagination. It didn’t require the services of a witch doctor to know their true intentions. They were there to display their assets, let their assets attract male customers who would in turn pay handsomely for their services.

I can understand these girls a bit because they aren’t at the club to find someone to date them, take them seriously or propose marriage. They were simply there to make money.

It’s then shocking that girls who would want a serious relationship with a man that would end up in marriage would start the mission erroneously by attracting him like a dog with her flesh.

Girls of nowadays have taken the flesh flaunting rhetoric up a notch. Social gathering, social media platforms, schools, weddings and even churches are inundated with girls displaying their sumptuous shapes in body hugging clothes, flaunting eye popping cleavage, wearing skirts closer to their waist than their knees. All in the name of fashion and as the law of attraction promises, they attract dogs. Then when he gets what he came for (the same booty you were flaunting) and leaves, they cry murder calling men all sorts of names.

As was my case from the beginning of this article, I attracted the dogs to me because I displayed something they wanted. The club girls attracted those randy men at the club because they displayed something they wanted. You will attract the kind of men with the sort of tools you display. You display boobs and ass, you will attract fuck boys. It’s not a curse, it’s the law of attraction.

As someone once said, breasts and ass can get a man but it takes sense and the right attitude to keep him.

The flesh you display should be synonymous to the sense you have. The more sense you have the less flesh you should display. Compensate for no sense by displaying more flesh. You have more sense, less flesh is required.

Dress the way you want to be addressed, they say. Then you dress scantily and expect to be addressed fully (pun intended).

You cannot eat your cake and have it Madam Sexy.

7 Reasons You Feel Bad After Having Sex

After God created Adam, He commanded the man, saying, “Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat. But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest of it thou shalt surely die”.

This task wasn’t difficult for Adam to keep because the woman wasn’t created when the instruction was passed down to him. So man was busy with dressing and keeping the garden (Genesis 2:15), naming the animals (Genesis 2:19) and enjoying a daily communication/friendly gist with God (Genesis 2:18,20).

While Adam was doing his work, God saw that he needed a help-meet and then God put Adam to a deep sleep and out of his rib created woman.

Eve was created……….

Remember Eve wasn’t around when the instruction was given to Adam. Adam was the one who conveyed the message to Eve.

Up stepped the serpent.

Now let’s understand something about the serpent who deceived both Adam and Even into eating the forbidden fruit.

Firstly, the serpent isn’t responsible for deceiving the Adam and Eve. The culprit is the devil. The serpent was only the medium to which the deception was perpetuated.

Secondly, the devil was formerly an angel in Heaven called Lucifer which means “Day Star” (Isaiah 14:12). Lucifer was in fact a heavenly angel created by God. He was perfect in wisdom and beauty and stood next to God’s throne/(Ezekiel 28:12). He was so beautiful and his voice so Heavenly that he was made the leader of the choir in Heaven ministering to God in worship (Ezekiel 28:13). Then Lucifer decided to attempt to unseat God and then demand that all worship him (Ezekiel 28:17, Isaiah 14:13, 14). It was treason of the worst kind. Lucifer’s discontent became open rebellion against God. One-third of heaven’s angels joined him in an attempt to overthrow God (Revelations 12:3-4). As a result, Lucifer and his followers were cast out of Heaven after they lost a fight for supremacy with Michael and his angels (Revelations 12:7-9).

So after the devil was cast down to Earth with his angels, God created Adam and gave him dominion over the Earth (Genesis 1:28-30).

The devil was having none of it. Not only did his attempt to gain power in Heaven fail so acrimoniously, even on Earth were he was cast down to, he had no power.

So he decided to wrestle power from Adam and Even by deceiving them to sin against God.

In Genesis 3, the devil approached Eve and asked her if it was true that God said they couldn’t eaten the forbidden fruit. She replied “Yes, that’s what God said. We can eat other fruits but not this one because the day we eat it, we will surely die”.
The devil seeing an opportunity to strike then told her “my dear, don’t be deceived, if you eat this fruit, you will not die but your eyes will be opened”.

The gullible Eve, took a second look at the fruit, saw that it was good for food and pleasant to the eyes. She took it eat and gave it to her husband and he did also eat and their eyes were opened. Immediately they saw that they were naked and sowed leaves together and covered themselves up.

Let’s stop here and let me show you how this story relates to sex.

Adam and Eve can be likened to every unmarried couple out there to whom God has instructed not to eat the forbidden fruit which is having premarital sex.
Remember the Bible says “the tree in the middle of the garden”. The middle of the garden connotes the penis/vagina. You are very aware that both sexual organs are in between the legs of both genders.

The devil knows that the surest way to take power from young unmarried people on Earth is by tempting them to eat the forbidden fruit (have premarital sex).

In the Bible, he used the serpent, but today he uses porn, sexual explicit videos, sexually active friends, sugar daddies, social media, sexually perverse song lyrics, movies, friends with benefits and many other mediums.

Have you ever wondered why virgins are considered to be mundane, frigid and not exposed? People assume that having sex opens one’s eyes. Having sex actually opens one’s eyes but remember that’s the same promise the devil gave Eve in Genesis 3:5 ‘For God doth know, that in the day ye eat of it, then your eyes shall be opened: and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil’.

So you see the similarities……..

So taking a cue from Adam and Eve, what happens when you have premarital sex?

1. You sin and allign yourself with the devil: By rejecting one of God’s commands, Adam and Eve allied themselves with Satan, God’s enemy, and thus brought separation between themselves and God (Isaiah 59:2). “He that committeth sin is of the devil.” 1 John 3:8. Therefore by having premarital sex, you are working with the devil in rebelling against God. Simple.

2. You hand over power to the devil: Remember Adam and Eve were given charge over Earth by God in Genesis 1:28-30 but as soon as they sinned, they lost it to Satan (Romans 6:16), who then became ruler, or prince, of the earth (John 12:31). Premarital sex or adulterous sex (sex between a married person and another person not their spouse) is directly handing over power to the devil.

3. We become prey to the devil:  Satan bitterly hates humans, who were created in God’s image. He can’t touch God. So, instead, his venom is directed against people who are God’s children. He’s a hateful, vicious murderer whose aim is to destroy you and thus hurt God. By convincing Adam and Eve to sin against God, he made God send them packing from the Garden of Eden. By convincing you to have premarital sex, he has made you loose your heritage in Christ.

4. Repercussions: When Adam and Eve sinned, God cursed them. For Adam he was made to toil endlessly to get his daily bread and take care of his family. For Eve, God multiplied her sorrow and made childbirth excruciating for her. When you sin by committing adultery/fornication, there are repercussions. You will reap what you sow. It’s one of the rules of life. Galatians 6:7 “Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to his flesh (sexual immorality) shall from the flesh reap corruption: but he that soweth to the Spirit, shall from the Spirit reap life everlasting”.

5. Unanswered prayers: When Adam and Eve sinned against God, when God came into the garden they hid from Him. Sin makes you stink in the presence of God. It makes you unworthy and makes your prayers futile.

So why do some people feel bad after sex?

1. Destination: The Bible says in Ephesians 5:5 “For you may be sure of this, that everyone who is sexually immoral or impure, or who is covetous (that is, an idolater), has no inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God. This caution was re-echo’d in 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 “Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God”.
So having premarital sex means that if you were to die on that bed, you will be going to Hell.

2. Sin against your body: A girl has sex and afterwards starts crying. She knows she has given out her soul and her body to someone undeserving of her. She feels guilty. Feels ashamed. Feels used. Feels unpure. She just sinned against her body and God.
“Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body.” (1 Corinthians 6:18).

3. Going against God’s will: God’s desire for sex is for it to be practised in marriage. For the Bible says in Hebrews 13:4a, “Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure”. 1 Thessalonians 4:3-5 “For this is the will of God, that you abstain from sexual immorality; that each one of you know how to control his own body in holiness and honor, not in the passion of lust like the Gentiles who do not know God”. Anytime you pleasure in sex, you displease God.

4. You will be judged: The Bible says in Hebrews 13:4b “God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral”. Which means on the judgment day, a special judgement will be reserved for those that engage in premarital sex. So instead of seeing this as the writer judging you (remember you will be judged by God Himself later on), see it as a correction.

5. You are spiritually intertwined: Most people assume that sex is just sex. Sex is more than just sex. Sex is more spiritual that we think. Have you ever wondered why married couples begin to look and think alike after being married for so long? Sex has brought them as one.

The Bible says in 1 Corinthians 6:13-20 “Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take the members of Christ and make them members of a prostitute? Never! Or do you not know that he who is joined to a prostitute becomes one body with her? For, as it is written, “The two will become one flesh.” But he who is joined to the Lord becomes one spirit with him.”
You are joined in one body with all those numerous sex partners you have had. Their travails, problems and issues becomes yours.

6. Unanswered prayers: Have you ever wondered why your prayers to God don’t get answered? 2 Timothy 2:22 “So flee youthful passions and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, along with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart. God only answers those that call upon Him with a pure heart. Sexual immorality pollutes the heart.

7. Love for God: Lastly, premarital sex is disobedience to God and disobeying God shows you don’t love Him. “If you love me, you will keep my commandments” (John 14:15). Anytime you have premarital sex, you display your love for sin and that’s showing your love for Satan because Satan is the father of sin (1 John 3:8).

NOTE: This article is not written to condemn anyone. No one is holy (Romans 3:10). No one is righteous (Ecclesiastes 7:20). No one is perfect (Romans 3:23). It is written for us to slowly and surely correct our ways. Live a life of godliness and remember “because of the temptation to sexual immorality, each man should have his own wife and each woman her own husband (1 Corinthians 7:2).

Get married if you can’t hold yourself and if married, remain faithful.

When Temptations Become Too Tempting

Some days back, a friend told me of how her polygamous father had refused to take care of her tuition in school. She needed money to further her education and had no one to assist her not even her own siblings cared.

Then one day, an angel popped up.

A devil’s angel I must add for he is a married man.

All she had to do was sleep with him when he desired and she would get all the money she needed.

Very tempting offer which she gave heed and later succumbed. He payed her fees and she slept with him occasionally.

She told me and I was livid. “You are selling your soul to the devil”, I said without mincing words.
“Let him go and let God take care of your tuition His own way”. I said.

She decided to forgo his overtures, return his gifts and told him NO!
Mind you, she just finished her first year and needed tuition fees for her second year in school.

Her friend on the other hand was having none of it. She was very angry that she didn’t keep giving him what he wants to get what she wants.

Let’s call this friend of mine Stella.

While giving her my two cents worth if advice, a story I heard as a small boy growing up came to mind.

There was this young boy who had a dream. In his dream, he saw that he was destined to be great in life. He told everyone who cared to listen about his dream including his brothers who took offense not only at his dreams but their father’s favouritism attitude towards him.

A few years after his days of dreams, he ended up as that a house-help. Not a zone where he envisioned seeing himself even after his BIG dreams. Instead of feeling sorry for himself or asking God questions or looking for sharp corners to cut to get his desired dreams met, he decided to put his hands to work and work he did.

His dreams weren’t coming to pass yet, the economy wasn’t looking up, financially he was in dire need, in all facets of life, he wasn’t doing well but this young man knew that the only distance between God and good is time. Time enough to prepare. Time enouh to work hard. Time enough to build himself. Delya is not denial, he thought to himself occasionally.

This young man worked so hard as a common house help and God blessed him and he found favour in the eyes of his boss. He was so good at his job that his boss handed everything in his house to this young man. This is trust 101.

But there was a catch……

His boss’ wife had other intentions.

For this young man was very handsome, had a nice physique, well spoken and very likeable. As he was busy working and earning his daily bread, his boss’ wife was longing for him. The shameless woman didn’t think of it as ungodly or unjust, she wanted what she wanted and what she wanted was for this young man to sleep with her. Simple.

Let’s stop here……

As the young man that I am, being favoured by my boss is one thing but to be wanted for sexual favours by his wife is another thing entirely. My boss wouldn’t find out, no one else apart from me and her would know. It would be out little secret. She is even willing to take good care of me financially. Considering that the recession is biting hard, money is failing and even helpers are broke. I think it’s a very easy way out. Sex for money. I like that idea. She even promised to buy me that car that I liked. That brand new iPhone I desired would be mine. Some extra money to take care of my tuition and feeding would be mine at the snap of my fingers. In all these, my boss wouldn’t find out. It’s a win-win.

Only if I was this young man, opportunity comes but ones, grab it with both hands (no pun intended).

But that did his naive young man do?

Not what I would have done.
Not what that girl looking for school fees would have done.
Not what that jobless man looking for some money would have done.
Not what money and possession minded people would have done.

The young man refused to sleep with her and in his holier than thou attitude said “how can I do this great wickedness (against my boss by sleeping with his wife) and sin against God?

This young man knew what he was being told to do was a sin both against his boss and mostly against God. It was gonna be fun (sexual immortality is always fun) but he knew the repercussions of this level of “fun”. He vehemently refused and thought that was the end of the matter.

As the story goes, his boss’ wife wasn’t given up so easily. She spoke to him day by day and he always maintained his stand and refused to sleep with her. Then on a fateful day, this young man went into the house to do his work and this shameless woman caught him by his polo shirt and wanted to rape him. But he left his shirt in her hands and ran away.

To cut the long story short, she accused him of rape to hide her shame, he was locked up in jail and after a few years, he was released and made Prince in a foreign land.

As if you didn’t already know let me introduce you to Joseph in the Bible.

Everyday temptations are rife and every now and then we would be tempted to compromise our beliefs and let down out guard just to make ends meet.
Just one sex to make so much money wouldn’t hurt anybody.
Just that email to dope that Oyimbo wouldn’t hurt anybody.
Just that lie to cover up that stolen money wouldn’t hurt anybody.

Are you so sure?

We need to realize that sin is sin. No big sin or small sin. Sin stains. It makes your prayers inconsequential and your cries to God null and void.

You need to avoid that temptation that’s clouding your spirituality.

3 ways to avoid temptation:
1. Flee: You are in mental struggle to either succumb to this sumptuous offer or maintain your stand. It’s not time to quote scripture or form strong. It’s time to flee. Run. The Bible said in 2 Timothy 2:22 “Run from temptations that capture young people…” (CEV).
That man that keeps tempting you with money to sleep with you. Run away from him. Block his number. Don’t pick his calls. Don’t reply his messages. Run. Run. Like Joseph did, run.

2. Submit to God: It’s one thing resisting the devil on your own. It’s only thing entirely resisting the devil by submitting yourself to God. In the former, the devil would come back with reinforcements (Matthew 12:45) but in the latter, the devil knows whose boss and would give way for a higher authority. Darkness can’t stand light, no matter how hard it tries.

You can’t resist temptations on your own accord. The economy is biting hard. Your tuition isn’t paid. Things aren’t looking up. You need to let go and let God. Without Him, you are prey for the devil and his cohorts. The devil has money to throw away. Never forget that.

3. Hang around the godly: Taking a cue from Stella’s story, her friend took offence to her returning the married man’s gifts and kept urging her to sleep with the married man to get her tuition paid for. What a friend!!!!!

Stay away from people that make sin a lifestyle. Those that make sin trendy and something one must do to survive. Keep friends with the godly. Those that fear God. Friendship is not by force but by choice. Psalms 1:1 “Blessed is the one who does not walk in the counsel of the ungodly not stands in the way of sinners..”

Lastly, remember that temptations are strife and you would get tempted. That’s for sure but falking inyo temptation is an option you can’t take. Run. Resist the devil and keep godly friends.
You will survive.
Let go and let God.

How To Lie To Women Using Euphemisms

Some years back, I was supposed to meet my then girlfriend for a date. I didn’t have a car so we decided to meet at the restaurant. I arrived some minutes before her and sat close to the window overlooking the entrance of the restaurant. A few minutes later, my beautiful girlfriend came through the gates and was approaching the restaurant. What I saw threw me back a few meters. I don’t know if my girlfriend applied make-up or poured the make-up on her face but the truth was that she was looking horrendous.
Then I thought to myself, I have two options. Tell her the truth which will definitely dampen her mood and spoil the evening or sugarcoat her appearance and allow her enjoy the evening, after all it’s the effort that matters. Up stepped euphemism.

In my little time as a bachelor, nothing has held me in better stead with girls than euphemisms. According to Google, euphemism can be defined as a mild or indirect word or expression substituted for one considered to be to harsh or blunt when referring to something unpleasant or embarrassing.

Do women want to hear the truth?
Not really. Yes they want to hear the truth but it has to be said in a very caring and subtle way.

Do women want to hear that they are getting fat? No!! Use an euphemism instead.
Your woman asks you “babe, am I getting fat?” Please don’t answer with a yes, instead reply with “sweerie you are gaining weight in the right places”.

Do women want to hear that the hair they spent hours and money making isn’t fine? No!! Use an euphemism instead.
Your woman asks you “babe, do you like my new hair?” Please don’t say you don’t like it, it will crush her. Instead say “baby, you look beautiful”. You described her beauty, not the appalling hair. Then when next she makes a hair you like, never stop talking about it. She will get the message.

The truth about women is that they constantly crave, desire and deserve the acknowledgement of their men. Learn to use euphemisms when describing her or you would be the truthful asshole.

So as for my girlfriend from the beginning of this piece. She stepped in and I gave her the hug of her life, kissed her and told her how beautiful she looked. She didn’t get to ask me how she looked, I didn’t have to tell her the truth and I didn’t get to hurt her feelings. We had a beautiful evening together. A few days later, after going through the pictures of our outing, she realized her make-up was awful and she stepped up her makeup game. Euphemisms works like magic  with ladies. Try it more often.
