New Year Resolutions

“HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!” Everybody kept screaming.

I crossed over into 2017 in church (as I always do since I can remember) and in the midst of the New Year euphoria, was a realization that I had entered into a brand new ‘virgin’ year.

Another year of working 8am to 5pm with a salary that never kept pace with the inflation rate?
Another year keeping my unborn children in my loins?
Another year of bachelorhood?
Another year of spiritual stagnation?
Another year of endless search for jobs with no one in sight?
Another year of wasting money on girls when I should taking care of my family?
Another year of blaming the government for my financial woes?
Another year of going through the year with the same mentality and expecting different results?

Another year without set targets and goals?

Something has to give…….

It was time for a change.

I had to get rid of that live-one-day-at-a-time mentality I used in previous years to this new, more efficicient plan-every-day-at-a-time mentality.

I had to set goals for the year.

Where I wanted to be in July 2017…
How much I expected to have by then…..
Where my spiritual life should have progressed to….
Where I should be operating mentally and physiologically….
How many books I should have read by September….
The lives I should have touched consciously by November….
The type of job I should be doing….
The name of the business I should have started…..
How many employees I should have employed by October….
The courses I should have participated in by April…..

I have decided to embibe Yogi Berra’s words in which he said “If you don’t know where you are going, you will end up someplace else”. Steve Maraboli added “If you don’t know exactly where you are going, how will you know when you get there?”

“Planing is bringing the future into the present so that you can do something about it now” – Alan Lakein

If you don’t plan ahead for 2017, anywhere you find yourself would be comfortable for you because you started without expectations.

Goals are powerful but without plans they are mare wishes – Antione de Saint-Exupery.

As Mark Twain said, “Plan for the future because that’s where you are going to spend the rest of your life”.

In the famour words of Benjamin Franklin, “By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail”.

I implore you to start this year with goals and plans towards achieving those goals……

Use the following aspects of your life as guideline.

1. Spiritual
2. Financial
3. Career/Academic
4. Familylife/Marital
5. Social
6. Stewardship
7. Health and fitness
8. Business etc

With well conceptualized and written goals and then step by step plans on what to do to achieve each goal.

For example:
1. Spiritual life…….
Goal A *By the beginning of March, I should be praying non stop for an hour*
Plan *Everyday, I am expected to pray a minute more than I did the precious day starting with one minute prayer on the first of January*

Goal B *Before the end of May, I should be able to quote at least 50 scriptures off heart*
Plan *Learn at least 10 scriptures every week*

2. Financial…….
Goal *Have a minimum account balance of a Million Naira in my account before February*
Plan *Adding my salary for two months, I come to N600,000. Left with N400,000. I need to sell enough clothes and shoes to make up for N200,000 of the balance. Then sell that expensive wristwatch I am no longer rocking for N50,000. The remaining N150,000 would be from that online business I am venturing into.

3. Marital life:
Goal *To be married by September*
Plan *Pray earnestly about my future spouse. Locate her. Stay in one committed relationship. Build her. Propose to her. Fix a date*

….and many more…..

At the end of the year or periodically you revert back to your Action Plan List booklet, tick the ones that have been achieved and remind of yourself of that one’s that haven’t.

Keeps you on your toes for the rest of the year not just whiling asy time watching TV and checking people’s updated on IG.

All the very best….
